   Hi Michael –

   Your labels are clear and accurate, and your presentation of the flowers is good. I do wish the white flower had been more cooperative about showing the inside details, but presses don’t always cooperate.

   Your white flower is not a Rhododendron groenlandicus (bog Labrador tea). Go ahead and google that plant, and pay attention to the stem, leaf arrangement and flower arrangement. Leaves of Labrador tea are alternate, very tough and tend to curl under; as well, the leaves and stems are hairy. This plant’s leaves appear to be whorled and lay flat, and the leaves and stems are quite bare. Without seeing the details of the flower, I would guess that it is actually Cornus canadensis. Would you please look that up, compare it to your specimen, and let me know if you agree or disagree? I’m willing to be convinced, if you’ll explain your reasoning.
