    Palmate Venation, Long Lanceolate, Stamin, Tap Root, Ovary, Pedicle, Conifer Seed Cone, Whorled Needles, Mesocarp

    I was originally looking for Fibrous roots but I either couldn’t find any that were large enough or not damaged, so I pulled up a beautiful Tap root and just crossed out Fibrous.

    Sorry if this is more basic level stuff and also I was trying to get a local Ovary but the Bluebells were way too small so I used a jalapeno instead.

    Completing my plant bingo while on vacation has been fun. These are all plants from northern Michigan. All photos taken using iPhone 12 Pro. Composite image created using Line Camera app for iPhone.

    I struggled a little with a few, but here’s my explanation

    1. Needle = white spruce
    2. Connation = petunia
    3. actinomorphic = begonia
    4. diadelphous = purple vetch. I included another photo, but it’s not great. I read that it is diadelphous because I couldn’t see it well enough.
    5. silique = I went with a photo of creamer’s field since I couldn’t find anything at my home. I believe the yellow flowers at creamers field are in the mustard family.
    6. inferior ovary = the begonia
    7. palmate venation= sunflower leaf
    8. adnation = mint (if didn’t flower, so I just did leaf)
    9. porate anther dehiscence = I’m not sure I got this one, but I tried an iris

    This was a fun assignment. The images I have are detailed and high quality (except for the rose, which got blurry every time because my daughter wouldn’t stop wiggling on my back!), but I had a hard time saving them in this pdf format. I will also upload the individual images, so you can all see the details, where needed. Thanks!

    Whew. Iʼm glad we were able to swap out a few terms to match what we have around us! I was finding the project really tricky until then. I really looked for siliques but I am not very familiar with ericaceae yet so was floundering a bit. I also really wanted to see a diadelphous stamen and saw lots of lupine, but kept reading conflicting reports as to whether you can handle this plant safely. Some sources said it was fine to touch but not to eat the seeds, other said it was fine to eat cooked but wear gloves while handling. Another reason to keep learning! The strawberry flower is a bit small but does have both stamen and pistils.
